How do I make a PDF smaller than a certain size?

Drop the PDF above, enter the size you need – say 2 MB for an email attachment or an upload form – and press “Shrink PDF”. smolpdf tries the gentlest changes first and compresses only as much as it takes to fit.

Are my files uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser, on your device. Your PDFs are never sent anywhere, so it is fine for confidential documents too.

Does the text stay sharp and selectable?

Yes, whenever possible. smolpdf first removes waste and shrinks images, and leaves text and drawings as they are. Only when a limit can’t be reached any other way are some pages turned into pictures, and it tells you when that happens.

Does it work for scans?

Yes. Scanned text is kept in sharp black and white where that looks best, and photos on the same page become a smaller colour image behind it. Scans stay readable even at small sizes.

Can I merge PDFs or remove pages?
